New book: The Boy at the Top of the Mountain by John Boyne

Anyone who has read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by the same author will know that they are in for a quite different story that is unpredictable and at times quite challenging. Set in pre-war France, a young boy with a French mother and German father, best friends with a deaf Jewish boy, starts out as a likable, loyal and loving character. The life-changing turn happens when his long lost aunt gets involved, introducing him to some less likeable characters who start to influence his way of thinking. This will appeal to senior students who are interested in WW2 and how it affected people on both sides of the Nazi regime. A brilliant story that is fast paced.
